Nature speaks little,
Hence a squall lasts not a whole morning,
And a sudden downpour cannot last all day.
What causes these?
Heaven and Earth.
If Heaven and Earth cannot make things last long,
How much less can man!
Therefore, one who devotes himself to the Dào is one with the Dào;
One who (devotes himself to) dé is one with that dé;
One who (devotes himself to) loss is one with loss.
He who conforms to the Dào is gladly accepted by the Dào.
He who conforms to dé is gladly accepted by dé.
He who conforms to loss is gladly accepted by loss.
When you don't trust (the people) enough,
Then they are untrustworthy.
